A digital tachograph is a new system based on digital technology to measure driving times and speeds, and which will replace analogue tachographs.
The system consists of a vehicle unit, a speed/distance sensor, and tachograph cards.
The sensor is a piece of equipment which registers the speeds and distances travelled by a vehicle by sending an encrypted signal to the vehicle unit.
